In the aftermath of Marvel’s Secret Wars, there was Battlerealm! In that distant corner of the multiverse, the Collector and the Grandmaster pit the survivors of the lost worlds into a new Contest of Champions. But the Maestro had taken exception to being a slave, and considering that he’s a super-strong evil genius version of the Hulk, that was a huge problem them!
Now, the Maestro has dethroned the Collector and the Grandmaster, reformed Battleworld itself and taken control of his destiny as a conqueror. Some of the former fighters are now on the run from the Maestro’s wrath, but not for long!
Next week, writer Al Ewing will be joined by artists Rhoald Marcellius and Paco Medina, with Juan Vlasco on Contest of Champions # 9. And in CraveOnline’s exclusive preview for that issue, the Maestro finds some unwilling recruits as he journeys to a world where Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man won the superhero Civil War and is now known as both Iron Patriot and Mr. President! Also, Black Widow has taken on Spider-Man’s role and Iron Spider costume while the original Spidey, Cap and other heroes are on some kind of squad that goes on Suicide missions…
Here’s the solicitation text from Marvel for Contest of Champions # 9:
“A new team of heroes is registered for the Contest —and they are VERY pro-registration! Their next mission: exterminate the renegade champions scattered across Battleworld!”
Contest of Champions # 9 will be released on Wednesday, June 1.
