Showtime Schedules ‘Twin Peaks’ and ‘Homeland’ For 2017

Showtime’s much anticipated revival of Twin Peaks is under a year away. Production on the third season/miniseries has been finished and Showtime has revealed when the network plans to run it.

Via Variety, Showtime President David Nevins indicated Twin Peaks will premiere in the second quarter of 2017. That means it will run in either April, May, or June 2017. Of course, that’s still not a definitive date, but not even co-creator David Lynch is sure how many episodes the miniseries will run. It’s currently being edited in post-production.

What we do know is that several original cast members returned for the revival, including Kyle MacLachlan, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Phoebe Augustine, Richard Beymer, and the late Catherine Coulson. New additions to the cast include Tim Roth, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Vedder, Naomi Watts, Ernie Hudson, Ashley Judd, and Trent Reznor. Yes, that Trent Reznor.

Showtime also made the unusual decision bump up the seventh season of Shameless to a fall 2016 premiere just a few months after the sixth season came to a close. As part of that move, Homeland season 6 is skipping 2016 altogether! Homeland season 6 will now premiere in January 2017 with a new storyline that brings Claire Danes’ Carrie Mathison back to the US and out of the CIA as she works for an organization dedicated to helping Muslims in her country. Of course, there’s bound to be a plot that will bring Carrie back into the world of counter-terrorism.

But there is good news for Homeland fans. According to Deadline, Showtime is close to renewing the series for two additional seasons, which would keep it on the network through season 8 in 2019. Additionally, Danes would be confirmed to return for those seasons.
