Read that again and let that sink in — over Hot Pockets.

I used to be a big fan of Hot Pockets, until I got older and realized that I was pretty much eating garbage. But hey, they had a good run as part of my diet. But one guy from Atlanta loves Hot Pockets so much he was willing to kill over them.

The man, named Nathaniel Mathis, completely lost his marbles last summer in a crazy incident. It kicked off when Mathis sent his sister and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Rodney Benton, to get pepperoni Hot Pockets using his card. But Mathis got some bad news after his sister called him to let him know the Hot Pockets were sold out. And when Mathis’ sister tried to buy other food, Mathis’ card was rejected. So she again called Mathis and an argument kicked off.

The couple returned home to a pissed off Mathis. According to prosecutors, Mathis went up to the passenger side of the couple’s SUV and yelled “you know what’s going on” and shot Benton eight times. Wow.

After fleeing to a park, Mathis approached a woman with a message for his sister. The message: “I just snapped. I love her and didn’t mean for it to happen this way.” Dude, you snapped over Hot Pockets. Police found Mathis in the woods with a gun pointed at his head, but they were able to take him into custody eventually.

And Mathis was just recently found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison plus ten years.

Good luck getting Hot Pockets behind bars.
