Crossing The Street While Looking At Your Phone In Honolulu Could Result In A $99 Fine
According to TechCrunch, no pedestrian in the city of Honolulu will be able to cross the street while “viewing a mobile electronic device” starting tomorrow. If gamers, textaholics and true assholes continue to do so, they will be slapped with fines up to $99.
The first time you’re caught looking down at your phone, authorities will issue you a $35 fine. The second time, you’ll have to fork over 75 bucks. The third time you’re caught looking at your mobile device, police can hit you with a fine of $99, and you’ll probably want to seek some kind of professional help for your addiction.
Naturally, there are exceptions to the rule. For example, people calling 911 to report an accident or some kind of emergency are still allowed to do so without getting fined. Plus, emergency responders who need to look at their phones for the sake of their jobs will be exempt from the rule.
And just so we’re clear, trying to track down that Vulpix in the latest installment of Pokémon Go is not an emergency.
