Adelaide Catholic School Covers Up Regrettable Statue Following Erection

A statue’s erection has been raising some eyebrows at an Adelaide catholic school.

Interpret that statement as you will.

The sculpture — commemorating one of the Biblical, bread-related miracles of Saint Dominic — was only unveiled at Blackfriars Priory this week, but spectators quickly cottoned on to a regrettable design flaw.

Yes, it seems the architect behind the religious installation either failed to thoughtfully consider the unfortunate positioning of the priest’s six-inch loaf, or else was straight-up trolling the Catholic church.

The school has since draped the effigy in a black sheet to shield the literal c*ck-up from public view (the Adelaide Advertiser understands this was only after students managed to snap a number of inappropriate photos with the statue, which have since permeated across social media) ahead of a meeting to discuss the future of the installation.

Very unlike the Catholic church to cover things up, we know, but there you have it.

UPDATE: Blackfriars Priory School has now released a statement, which reads:

You may have seen media reports today of the recent placement of a statue of St Martin de Porres in the St Martin de Porres environmental precinct. The statue was sculptured in Vietnam by the same sculptor who created the St Dominic statue on the front lawn of our School. The sculpture is a famous depiction of the tireless work of St Martin de Porres, a Dominican brother, for the poor and downtrodden of the 16th Century. The two-dimensional concept plans for the statue were viewed and approved by the Executive Team in May but upon arrival the three-dimensional statue was deemed by the Executive to be potentially suggestive. As a consequence, the statue was immediately covered and a local sculptor has been commissioned to re-design it. The School apologises for any concerns and publicity generated by this matter and is taking action to substantially alter the statue.
