I don’t know if the Loch Ness monster is real or not, but of course it would be a fantastic discovery if it actually turned out to be real. That said, I am not on the boat of people that actually believe this decomposed thing that washed up on a Georgia beach recently is the Loch Ness monster.
Jeff Warren and his son came across the strange carcass over the weekend, and at first glance assumed that it looked a lot like the the infamous creature.
“My son, who is twelve, thinks it is the child of the legendary Altamaha-ha [Nessie-like sea monster rumored to live near the Georgia coast] and has now decided he wants to be a marine biologist,” Warren told the Savannah Morning News.

Well according to Chantal Audran of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, it’s not the Loch Ness monster, but perhaps a shark in an advanced state of decomposition.

“It looks like a deep sea shark, like a frilled shark. Although I don’t see gill slits,” Audran said. Although Tara Cox, an associate professor of marine sciences at Savannah State University, believes it may be a former basking shark.
“I did some digging, and yes, a basking shark looks surprisingly like a mythological/prehistoric sea serpent when it decomposes,” Cox said.
So yes, ladies and gentlemen, this creature is not Nessie, so let’s go back trying to spot flying humanoids instead.
