While the majority of news from Florida features everything from an old lady being attacked by a rabid otter to declaring porn a health risk, sometimes the Sunshine State also has some news they can be proud of. And this time around it’s all about a super old ship washing up on a beach.
Earlier this week, an 18th Century ship happened to wash up on Ponte Verde Beach. The ship’s 48-foot-long hull somehow survived and washed up almost intact.
According to Brevard Times, a St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum researcher received permission from the State of Florida to move the ship above the tide line. Since the attempts to move the ship did not go well, researchers instead decided to anchor the old ship to prevent the remains from being washed out to sea again.
The museum believes that this ship could date back all the way to the 1700’s. It was also revealed that the ship’s hull was once copper, and Roman numerals were discovered carved on the hull as well.

It will now be up to the state to decide what to do with the wreckage. In other words, it will be up to Disney, who obviously controls all.
