Many of us have donated things to charity thrift stores at one time or another. Maybe it was some old dress shirts that we no longer deemed fashionable. Perhaps it was some suits that don’t fit anymore. Or possibly it was an old piece of furniture like a desk, coffee table, or well-loved couch. But, while there’s a chance you’ve donated something at some point in your life, there’s a good chance you didn’t drop off an item with a beloved family pat hiding inside.
This is exactly what happened recently in Colorado when a family donated an old recliner to a local charity thrift store. Clearly the family didn’t realize that their tabby cat Montequlla was inside snoozing.
When the recliner arrived at Arc Thrift Store, Montequlla, who we can only assume was asleep throughout the trip, began meowing. Workers heard the strange feline sound coming from inside the chair and alerted Denver Animal Protection.
When animal protection arrived, they were able to successfully remove the cat from its cozy wooden and fabric trap, but were dismayed to find that its microchip information wasn’t up to date.
Luckily, while this was likely happening, the family who donated the chair realized that they couldn’t find their lovable pet and began searching everywhere for it. They reached out to the store as a last-ditch effort to find the missing cat and they were told to call animal protection.
The agency reunited the family with their missing cat and you can be pretty sure if they donate another piece of furniture they’ll take a better look to make sure it doesn’t contain any stowaways next time.
