73-Year-Old Former Prince Charles Gets First Job as King Following Queen Elizabeth II’s Death (Welcome to the Working World, Buddy)

By now, the whole world knows that Queen Elizabeth II died last week at the ripe old age of 96. She was the longest-serving monarch in Britain’s history. We’re not huge royal family followers here at Mandatory, but one can only imagine how eager former Prince Charles was to take over for his “darling mama.” After all, he’s been waiting in the wings his entire life for this moment.

Some thought that the firstborn son of the late Queen Elizabeth II might not outlive his mother and therefore would never make it to the throne. As it turns out, he has, and is at age 73 now known as King Charles III. It couldn’t have happened to a douchier guy. (Who in their right mind would dump Princess Diana for Camilla Bowles? Seriously. It just goes to prove money can’t buy good taste.)

So now, in the winter of his life, King Charles III has just landed his first job. That should make anyone out there struggling with their career feel better. You still have time to figure things out!

Though the new king was allegedly overheard telling UK Prime Minister Liz Truss that this was “the moment I’ve been dreading, as I know a lot of people have,” we’re pretty sure he did an underwear-and-socks dance in his bedroom a la Tom Cruise in Risky Business when this all went down. He is now only the most revered human in all of England – or the most reviled, depending on who you ask.

But behind his elation to finally be in power must be a little fear, too – because you better believe there are other generations already in line for his crown, and we wouldn’t put it past anyone to, um, clear the way in order to say good riddance to bad rubbish. (That’s a British saying, right?)

As with all things, Twitter had some thoughts on the changing of the guard.

May this new era bring many more opportunities to poke fun at the royal family.
