Comic-Con 2011: Guide To The Funniest Panels – Sunday

Planning a trip to San Diego Comic Con 2011 and don’t want to be stuck in boring-sounding panels about the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund? (Zzzz?) Not to worry – CraveOnline has got you covered.

Though I’ll be at booth L5 all show with my comedy magazine The Devastator (mention CraveOnline and get a free high-five!), here are Sunday’s can’t-miss comedy panels that unfortunately I will be missing. We already made guides for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So let’s skip past the panels on comic book tie-ins for video games based on movies originally adapted from comic books, and get to the goddamn funny. Here are some panels that stood out to me for their potential hilariousness:

10:00-11:00 Axe Cop Meet Comic-Con special guests Ethan and Malachai Nicolle, the 30- and 7-year-old brothers behind the award-winning web comic and print series Axe Cop (Dark Horse Comics). With moderator Kevin Murphy (Mystery Science Theater 3000, Riff Trax) and other guests Ethan and Malachai discuss Axe Cop and give you an exclusive look at what’s coming up in the world of the head-chopping policeman. At age 7, Malachi is Comic-Con’s youngest special guest ever! Room 6DE

Axe Cop is one of the most talked about webcomics of all-time, and now you can meet Ethan Nicolle and his little brother in person. Hopefully, they will be autographing flutes afterwards.

11:00-12:00 Allen Gregory Creator/executive producer and star Jonah Hill (Superbad, Get Him to the Greek), showrunner David Goodman (Family Guy), and creators/executive producers Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, along with an all-star voice cast including French Stewart and Nat Faxon, present a sneak peek at FOX’s new animated series that tells the story of the most pretentious 7-year-old of our time. Exclusive preview of Allen Gregory animation will be followed by a fan Q&A session. Room 25ABC

There’s good buzz surrounding Jonah Hill’s first TV creation, so you can catch a sneak peak at “Allen Gregory”in San Diego. Plus, this is a perfect opportunity to ask French Stewart questions about the Big Giant Head.

1:00-2:00 Nickelodeon: The Fairly OddParents: the 10th Anniversary and T.U.F.F. Puppy Year Two— Series creator and executive producer of The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, and T.U.F.F. Puppy Butch Hartman is joined by T.U.F.F. Puppy cast members Jerry Trainor (iCarly), Grey DeLisle (The Fairly OddParents), Daran Norris (The Fairly OddParents), and Matthew Taylor (Open Season 1, 2, 3), and story editor Ray DeLaurentis (The Fairly OddParents) to share sneak peeks, pesent a script reading, answer questions, and even invite a few lucky fans to join in on the fun! Moderated by Dana Cluverius, director of current series for Nickelodeon. Room 7AB

“Fairly OddParents” is the perfect show to watch at 1 pm after waking up from a hard night of partying. So if you painted the Gaslamp District Spider-Man red on Saturday and want to stumble into something, this is a good bet.

2:45-3:30 It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Join the hilarious cast — Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito — for a Q&A panel session.  Hall H

It’s Always Sunny” has always been a big deal for comedy fans, but getting Hall H means they’re expecting massive crowds for Green Man and friends. See the stars of the awesome FX comedy in person, but if you’re in the back, expect to watch them in person mostly via a giant screen.

3:00-4:00 DC Comics – The New 52— DC Comics explodes in September with 52 new number one issues and one panel is not enough to cover it! With a “DC Comics – The New 52” panel each day, there’s sure to be something for everyone! Join DC Comics Group Editors Matt Idelson and Mike Marts for an up-close look at this unprecedented wave of new series, from the first-ever re-launches of Action Comics and Batman titles to the latest thrills from comics’ cutting-edge! Join Matt, Mike and some of the industry’s top writers and artists as we make history together. Room 6DE

Unintentional Hilarity Alert: Many comic book fans are SUPER upset with DC for rebooting all their titles, in order to make their comics less impenetrable for newbies. However, hardcore fans are going Arkham Asylum-level nuts, and they’re even organizing a protest rally outside of the convention center! In other words, any panel labeled “New 52” will likely feature screaming about Batgirl, the funniest type of screaming.
