If you’re addicted to the Food Network (like I am) then most of these names will be familiar to you. All of these Canadian TV chefs have starred on their own cooking shows and have shared their colourful culinary know-how with the masses. Here are the top 10.
Bob Blumer
No, he’s not just the guy who is frantically putting Tabasco sauce on his food in those commercials – Blumer is also the host and co-creator of the award-winning television series “Glutton for Punishment.”
Lynn Crawford
Hosting Food Network’s “Restaurant Makeover” and most recently “Pitchin’ In” (where she’s oh-so-endearing), Crawford received tremendous media attention as the executive chef of Four Seasons Hotel in New York City, where she was the only female executive chef for a Four Seasons property in the world.
Chuck Hughes
A Montreal boy through and through, Hughes is the host of “Chuck’s Day Off” and owns two restaurants in his hometown: Garde Manger and Le Bremner. He also became the first Canadian “Iron Chef” to beat out Bobby Flay, which he did with his infamous lobster poutine.
Christine Cushing
Greece-born and Toronto-raised, Cushing hosted “Christine Cushing Live,” the Food Network Canada’s flagship daily show, for four seasons.
Michael Smith
A Maritime favourite and cooking out of his personal kitchen at his PEI home, Smith is a decorated chef and winner of the James Beard Award for Cooking Show Excellence as well as the host of a number of shows like “Chef Abroad,” “Chef at Home,” “Chef at Large,” and “The Inn Chef.”
Rob Feenie
A Vancouver-based chef, Feenie has appeared on a number of Food Network shows, he’s a published author and he also owns a number of award-winning restaurants.
Ricardo Larrivée
Another Montreal-born chef, Larrivée is sitting on an empire – in addition to his show “Ricardo,” he also heads a popular magazine by the same name.
Mark McEwan
Host of “The Heat With Mark McEwan” as well as the main judge on “Top Chef Canada,” McEwan is a restaurant and gourmet grocery store owner.
Stephen Yan
After owning two Chinese restos in the Vancouver area, Yan hosted the popular Canadian cooking show
”Wok with Yan” for a number of years.
Ken Kostick
The late Ken Kostick, a funny and sweet celeb chef who shared the spotlight with Mary Jo Eustace on their show “What’s for Dinner?” passed away in April of this year.
