Marcus Fenix in Mortal Kombat?

Is there a chance Gears of War protagonist Marcus Fenix could come to NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat as a downloadable character? Yes, but it’s very slim chance. However, that doesn’t stop us from dreaming about the possibilities.

The idea of Marcus chainsawing the holy hell out of Scorpion started yesterday when NetherRealm’s Ed Boon responded to a fan question through twitter saying that he would have loved to see Marcus as a bonus character for the Xbox 360 version of Mortal Kombat, much like how the PS3 version got God of War’s Kratos.

“What would’ve been the Microsoft exclusive if you had a choice? Noobde: I wudda wanted Marcus Fenix from Gears,” responded Boon.

It didn’t take long for Epic Games’ design director, Cliff Bleszinski, to respond to the tweet, asking Boon to “Hit him up about that!”

And that’s it. Could we be making a bigger deal of this than necessary. Of course. In fact, that’s probably the case. But again, we would love to see Marcus Fenix come to Mortal Kombat as a downloadable character. It would be hilarious to see some of the weapons and gadgets of the Gears universe translate over to Mortal Kombat. Personally, I would love to see Marcus with the ability to call in Jack for air support.

If anything actually does come of this, we’ll be back to report on it. You best believe that.
