Every season on “True Blood,” a new villain seems to head to Bon Temps and set their sights on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her friends. And while details about the upcoming fifth season are scarce, we may know who the villain will be this year… or rather, the villainess.
TVLine is reporting that actress Valentina Cervi has signed on for the new season of “True Blood” as Salome, an ancient vampire who is described as “a world class seductress and fiercely intelligent.” The report also notes that Salome is quite insane and that she is very powerful, although she sometimes hides her powers when it suits her to do so.
It’s unknown if the vampire Salome is the same Salome that appeared in the Bible as one of the most infamous women in the New Testament thanks to her powers of seduction and her chronicled role in the death of John the Baptist. But if Salome is as ancient as the report claims, a connection certainly seems likely.
Cervi is an Italian actress primarily known for her starring role in the film “Artemisia” and the recent BBC detective miniseries, “Zen.” Cervi also appeared in “War and Peace,” “Miracle at St. Anna” and an upcoming adaptation of “Jane Eyre.”
A separate report on TVLine notes that Dale Dickey (“My Name is Earl”) is also joining “True Blood” as Annie, the werewolf mother of Marcus Bozeman; the former packmaster who was killed by Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) during the fourth season. The report notes that Annie is determined to perform “a particular ritual,” possibly to avenge the death of her son.
“True Blood” will return to HBO in the summer of 2012.
