Halfway through its seventh season, the producers of “How I Met Your Mother” and stars Jason Segal and Alyson Hannigan met the Television Critics Association for some updated coverage. I took the opportunity to ask Hannigan some questions about the show, “Buffy” and American Reunion.
CraveOnline: Have you wrapped your head around the fact that you will have been on “How I Met Your Mother” longer than “Buffy”?
Alyson Hannigan: Well, I’ve actually already shot the episode that took me into this is now my longest job. We just did our 150th and I did 144 episodes of Buffy but then I missed two of this, so just made it. We sort of checked it off for all of the cast members and I was the last one because Neil I think did 96 Doogie Howsers so 144 for me.
CraveOnline: How does that feel?
Alyson Hannigan: It’s a little weird. It is. I mean, it’s fantastic. I’m so excited. These are my peeps. They were too but I’m so grateful that not only could I have been on a show once that went that long but now twice. It’s just like [SINGS] “Thank you.” I’m very, very grateful.
CraveOnline: What funny stuff is coming up for Lily?
Alyson Hannigan: Wow, that’s a good question. I feel like I don’t really know because I feel like we’ve already aired everything that we’ve shot. It seems like we’re in repeats now. We just got back from vacation.
CraveOnline: What was it like to be back with the American Pie gang in American Reunion?
Alyson Hannigan: Oh, it was such a blast. It was so much fun and it really was like a reunion, and the movie is so good.
CraveOnline: What is Michelle like now?
Alyson Hannigan: Well, she has a kid and they’re trying to balance being parents and also being in a relationship and not letting that take the back burner.
CraveOnline: Is there any line that can be as memorable as the flute line?
Alyson Hannigan: I hope so. Honestly, because I saw it a few weeks ago, I think it’s just as funny, if not funnier than the first film. I really, really am so excited about it. It turned out so well and fans of the first one or any of them will be really happy.
CraveOnline: If they invited you to the premiere of the non-Joss Whedon Buffy remake, would you go?
Alyson Hannigan: [Laughs] Well, I heard that it’s off the table now and it’s not happening. Anybody says Buffy, it’s Joss. Joss is “Buffy” to me. So when they announced that there was going to be a movie without him, then I was like well, that’s just a different movie. That’s not “Buffy.” It would be something entirely different so it never registered.
CraveOnline: How often do you hear from “Buffy” fans now that you’ve been on this show so long?
Alyson Hannigan: Still, but it’s more balanced now. It used to be always “Buffy” and now it’s pretty even, half “Buffy,” half this and then also American Pie.
