Years ago, comic book writer Mark Millar predicted that Hollywood would eventually lure some of the top comic creators into its midst. And in the last few years, we’ve seen that prediction come true with Brian K. Vaughan, Robert Kirkman and even Millar himself.
Now Ed Brubaker is set to be the newest comic creator to make the leap to television. According to Deadline, Brubaker has already lined up deals at NBC and Fox to write and executive produce two original drama projects.
At Fox, Brubaker has “Rising Suns;” which follows an underboss in the American Yakuza who becomes “involved” with the female FBI agent trying to bring him down as he struggles to maintain his position and his life. “Awake” creator Kyle Killen is also attached as an executive producer to the project alongside 20th Century Fox TV.
Brubaker’s potential NBC series is currently untitled, but it features a young female FBI agent-in-training whose job is to clean up after a more famous agent following his missions as she attempts to erase all trace of his existence. That project is being executive produced by Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan.
In the comic book industry, Brubaker is best known for his memorable stints on Batman, Catwoman, Daredevil and especially for his run on Captain America; which directly inspired the upcoming Captain America sequel.
Several of Brubaker’s creator owned comics have also been optioned by Hollywood, including “Sleeper” (pictured above) and “Coward;” the first storyline in Brubaker’s “Criminal” comic book.
Brubaker recently left Marvel to focus on his creator owned titles like “Fatale” from Image.
