FX Orders ‘Archer’ Season 5

FX has just gone back to the Danger Zone… for the fifth time.

Earlier today, FX officially ordered a fifth season of “Archer,” the animated spy comedy created by Adam Reed. “Archer” stars H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer, one of the world’s greatest super spies… who also happens to a clueless, womanizing imbecile. Jessica Walter, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Amber Nash, Lucky Yates and George Coe co-star in the series, with Reed providing the voice of Ray Gillette.

“Archer” Season 5 will consist of 13 new episodes to debut in 2014; which will bring the series’ total up to 62 episodes. One of the reasons for the early renewal by FX is that “Archer” ranks behind only “The Walking Dead” on cable in the coveted demo of Men between 18 and 34 years old. Initial airings of “Archer” are also bringing in 2.37 million viewers and the DVR numbers and repeat airings are also impressive.

“Archer” Season 4 is currently running new episodes Thursday nights on FX. And this season, “Archer” will be submitted to the Emmys as a Best Comedy Series, making it one of the few animated series to earn that distinction.
