Garrett Reynolds Looking For History At Barcelona

It’s tough to believe that Garrett Reynolds is just 22-years-old, as it seems like just yesterday the New Jersey native finished fourth at X Games 13.  Reynolds has focused on two events during his career – BMX Park and BMX Street – and has become one of the most dominant X Games athletes in history, accomplishing more than some riders twice his age.

In 2008 – during just his second X Games appearance – Reynolds stunned the Los Angeles crowd and walked away with the gold in the newly formed BMX Street event.  But it didn’t stop there.  For the next four X Games, Reynolds went on to win the gold in the event and he is the only athlete to win the event throughout its five-year existence.

And now his focus is on a six-peat.

There have only ever been two athletes in the summer and winter X Games that have pulled off six straight first place finishes in any given event.  The first was BMX legend Jamie Bestwick who accomplished the feat last year in BMX Vert and has since added another at the age of 41.  The other was snowboarding great Shaun White who completed the feat last January in Snowboard Superpipe.

While Reynold’s signature event was not part of the lineup at last month’s games in Foz do Iguaçu, it is slated for next week’s games in Barcelona and is set to take place on May 19.  But it won’t be easy for him to continue his dominance of BMX Street with competition like Bruno Hoffmann and Paul Ryan.
