So imagine you are a 19-year-old soccer phenom — I mean, born in 1994 for God’s sake — and you are on a competitive team, playing in front of thousands of fans and you score your first career goal. The pride and joy that swells up inside you must be over-bearing. You are a stud. You are unstoppable. You celebrate! You…injure yourself.
So is the case for Brazilian footballer, Maurides, who in the 88th minute of Wednesday night’s Copa do Brasil matchup against American MG, injured himself while doing a cartwheel/backflip in celebration of scoring his first career goal for Internacional.
He injured his knee and had to be taking off on a stretcher after doing his best Ozzie Smith impression.
Team doctors say it is just a sprained knee and was likely just a “scare.”
Good thing. Remember Martin Gramatica? No bueno.
