AMC Greenlights Two New TV Series

AMC has a series of panels with the Television Critics Association today, including the final season of “Breaking Bad,” third season of “Hell on Wheels” and new series “Low Winter Sun.” We’ll have interviews with those casts but first AMC president and general manager Charlie Collier announced two new series he has just confirmed.

“AMC is ordering two scripted series in the same cycle,” revealed Collier. “‘Halt and Catch Fire’ and ‘Turn.’ We finished these deals today and called people today. ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ is set in the early ‘80s against the backdrop of the early days of the personal computing revolution. ‘Turn’ is inspired by the book Washington’s Spies written by Alexander Rose. It’s set in the summer of 1778. Tells the story of New York farmer Abe Woodhull who joins with childhood friends to find the Culper Ring.”

“Halt and Catch Fire” stars Lee Pace, Scott McNairy and Kerry Bishe, produced by Melissa Bernstein and Mark Johnson. “Turn” stars Jamie Bell, Kevin McNally and Burn Gorman, adapted from the Rose book by Craig Silverstein and produced by Barry Josephson.

Collier confirmed these are not just pilot orders. “We’re taking them to series,” he said.
