Star Wars VII Special Effects Will Be Practical, CG Combo

Hey, were you fans of the way Yoda or Jar Jar Binks appeared in Star Wars: Episodes 1-3? Okay, we need to talk. On a related note, everyone else is happy because Star Wars Episode VII is doing less of that.

Crave’s Collider website published parts of an interview with producer Kathleen Kennedy, in which she said the next Star Wars will feature a mixture of practical and special effects to take us to a galaxy far, far away.

In Star Wars, George Lucas used models of Tie Fighters, X-Wings and other ships, mixed them with real explosions and CG stars, planets and even more explosions to create the space scenes.

“The conversation we’re having all the time now about ‘Episode VII’ is how much CGI.  We’re looking at what the early Star Wars films did; they used real locations with special effects. So [for ‘Episode VII’] we’re going to find some very cool locations, we’re going to end up using every single tool in the toolbox.” – Kathleen Kennedy

Star Wars Episode VII, still being directed by J.J. Abrams, opens in 2015.
