Nate Burleson Suffers Freak Injury

Nate Burleson really might have worse luck than Rashad Johnson. At least Rashad was playing football when he injured himself bad enough to require surgery.

Kids, make sure you focus on the road when driving, no matter how hungry you are.

Below is the take from Deadspin on the story, because who doesn’t love some fun commentary with their breaking news (pun intended).

The Lions could be without wide receiver Nate Burleson for the rest of the season because of a vehicle crash that happened at 2:25 a.m. today. According to police, alcohol was not a factor. But falling pizza was.

Burleson was driving his 2009 GMC Yukon SUV along an interstate road in Farmington Hills, a Detroit suburb, when he became distracted by a pizza falling off the front seat. (Reports vary was to whether it was one pizza or two.) Burleson, who was wearing a seatbelt, lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into a median. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and is scheduled to have surgery later today. Police did not cite him for a moving violation.

Burleson had been the team’s leading receiver through three games, but good things are not allowed to happen to the Lions.

That’s right, Burle-baby has had more catches than Mega-tron so far this season and was on his way to becoming this week’s hottest fantasy pickup. That must have been some damn good pizza.

Reports say that Burleson has a broken arm (no one knows which one) and surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. It is not clear how long the receiver will be out but the Lions are optimistic he’ll be back at some point this season.
