Don Mancini is back and revisiting Bride of Chucky, a film many consider to be the best in the Child’s Play franchise, and the best film of Katherine Heigl’s career. Taking its cue from James Whale’s Bride of Frankenstein, and a little of the meta humor from 1996’s Scream, Ronny Yu’s Bride of Chucky emerged as a witty send-up of Chucky and the rest of the horror genre, with rich new characters and a full-on puppet sex scene. Don Mancini reveals how the film came to be so different from the rest of the franchise, how hard it was to get Ronny Yu approved as a director and why he doesn’t approve of a Chucky vs. Leprechaun crossover.
