Former lead singer of Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page, is testing his palate on the new food series “The Illegal Eater,” which takes viewers on a journey to uncover some of the tastiest, creative, illegal food in a city’s unlicensed (secret) underground venues. It’s in these places where the food is always fresh, local, and the experience is completely authentic.
“I had always said to people if I was ever approached to [host a TV show], I think food would be the only thing I would focus on,” Page told Matt Galloway, host of CBC’s Metro Morning (as reported by CBC News). “I’m a musician. I’ve travelled for 25 years around the world and the gateway to understand a city is through its food.”
Page led the successful Canadian band Barenaked Ladies as the main vocalist and guitarist (as well as the group’s main songwriter) before leaving the band in 2009 to pursue a solo career. He put out a number of studio albums including “A Different Sort of Solitude,” which came out last year.
Page also wrote and performs the show’s theme song.
“The Illegal Eater” kicks off tomorrow night on the Travel & Escape network.
