Sony & Seth Rogen Land ‘Preacher’ TV Pilot At AMC

Over the weekend, word broke that AMC had picked up the rights to adapt the Vertigo comic book series “Preacher” for television. While AMC has yet to formally announce the project, several details have begun to leak out.

Accord to Bleeding Cool“Preacher” is being adapted at AMC through Sony Pictures Television with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and “Breaking Bad’ scribe Sam Caitlin attached to the project. Rogen alluded to his involvement with the “Preacher” project on Saturday with a few words on Twitter

As originally created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, “Preacher” follows Jesse Cutter, a small town preacher who is merged with the offspring of an angel and a demon that gives him the Word of God, a power that forces almost any being in creation to follow his commands. Joining Jesse on his road trip to find God are his ex-girlfriend turned professional assassin, Tulip and a 100 year old Irish vampire named Cassidy.

The Bleeding Cool report states that Ennis was very pleased about Rogen and Goldberg’s take on “Preacher,” which is said to be true to the source material. If “Preacher” goes to series at AMC, Ennis would be “an active consultant” on the show.

While “Preacher” doesn’t yet appear to have a greenlight to film the pilot episode, the report also notes that AMC won a bidding war to land the project. If so, that greatly increases the chances that a “Preacher” adaptation will finally happen on AMC.
