Aussie athletes will come under more scrutiny than ever before after the Australian Olympic Committee issued a new behavioural code for all future Olympics.
The AOC hasn’t strictly ruled out the consumption of alcohol, instead banning the physical signs that show excessive amounts of actual alcohol has been consumed.
An actual press conference was held on Tuesday, informing the public of the decision to ban all signs of swaying, staggering and incoherent conversation.
The following will no longer be tolerated at future Olympics:
– Being disorderly or argumentative
– Being bad tempered, aggressive or using offensive language
– Swaying, staggering or falling down
– Speech which is loud and boisterous
– Having rambling conversations
– Having difficulty in paying attention or comprehending others
– Annoying fellow team members and others
– Other conduct deemed by the Chef de Mission to be inconsistent with team standards.
“These restrictions have been implemented to ensure that Australia’s Olympic athletes are given the opportunity to compete to the best of their ability and with distinction,” AOC president John Coates said.
“The Australian Olympic Committee is committed to creating an Olympic team environment which supports high performance and ensures that the highest standards of conduct are maintained by all team members (athletes and officials) throughout the entire Games period.”
The new set of rules are a delayed response to actions of the Aussie swim team in London. In addition to an underwhelming performance in the pool, members of the men’s team recklessly used prescription drugs and got up to a number of mischievous acts.
