Mark Webber, Eric Bana Teaming Up For Bathurst

Mark Webber officially retired from Formula One just a few days ago, but the Aussie driver is already filling up his calendar ahead of his move to Porsche.

Webber’s F1 career concluded at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing second behind teammate and four-time world champ Sebastian Vettel.

Now, the 37-year-old says he will be joining forces and sharing his Porsche with a Hollywood star.

Webber intends on teaming up with fellow Aussie Eric Bana at Bathurst 2015, Australia’s longest endurance race of 12 hours.

The news hit when Webber responded to a fan on Twitter, saying he’ll be bringing Bana and six-time Olympian rower (three gold medals) James Tomkins along for the ride.

Bana reached international fame for his performances in Chopper, Black Hawk Down, Hulk, Munich and Troy and is also a big car guy, having previously competed at Bathurst and the Targa Tasmania rallies.

According to the Courier Mail, Webber will be taking a Porsche 911 GT3 to the Mount Panorama event.

Webber ended his F1 career in emotional fashion last weekend, posting his best time on his final lap.

“It was a good finish to my career,” he said..

“I want to thank Seb, Fernando, Lewis and all the guys who have been in the racing window with me for the last few years.

“I want to thank everyone in Australia and I want to thank everyone who has helped me – they know who they are.”

Webber’s F1 career spanned 12 years over 216 races and featured nine wins and 33 podium finishes.
