CBC recently announced plans for the Scotiabank-sponsored Hockey Day In Canada, taking place January 18th – four different NHL games will be played with all seven Canadian teams.
“For 14 years ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ has showcased our love for the game that continues to play an important role in communities across the country through Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada,” said Jennifer Dettman, executive director of studio and unscripted content at CBC (in a press release). “It’s always an important day on the CBC calendar. We’re proud to have Lloydminster as host for this year’s national celebration of grassroots hockey and community spirit.”
The theme of this year’s Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada broadcast is “Community” and will include features that examine the common bond Canadians share through hockey and the local rinks in which it is played as well as the role the game plays in bringing Canadian communities together from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Throughout the broadcast CBC will look in on hockey-related events taking place in communities across the country including Prince George, BC, Barry’s Bay, ON and Sydney, NS.
“We are counting down the days until Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada from Lloydminster, when hockey fans will come together for a cross country celebration of the sport,” said Laurie Stang, Scotiabank senior vice president, Prairie Region. “We have seen firsthand how much hockey means to Canadians, particularly at the community level. That’s why we are thrilled to be a part of this fantastic hockey experience and we hope fans of all ages are able to join us in Lloydminster, at one of the remote celebrations across the country, or by taking in the action from home.”
The broadcast begins at 12pm with Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada: Celebrating the Game, live from the Winter Festival in Lloydminster.
