Canadians with a penchant for collectibles may be able to strike the deal of a lifetime on the new CBC show “Four Rooms,” from the producers of “Dragons’ Den.”
“Four Rooms” features four of Canada’s most savvy and respected buyers – Vancouver’s Scott Landon is a former RCMP officer who turned his passion for collecting into a full-time gig, now owning Scott Landon Antiques and becoming one of the country’s leading experts in all things Canadian; Toronto-based Jessica Lindsay Phillips is a private collector and curator who doesn’t shy away from dark and mysterious objects – her collection includes shrunken heads, mummies, medieval torture devices and tribal weaponry, and she is the director of the Billy Jamieson-Niagara Falls Museum Collection, amongst other things; Derreck Martin is the owner of Toronto’s 507 ANTIQUES, a 22-year-old family business that prides itself on being the largest antiques dealer in Canada; and Montreal’s Eddy Rogo is an international auctioneer with over 25 years’ experience in buying and selling the world’s finest antiques – as co-owner of Empire Auctions, he buys and sells anything, from furniture and fine art to sculptures and rare jewels. Members of the public come from across Canada with prized possessions that they think could be worth a fortune and waiting in four rooms are these top buyers, each ready to spend big money on whatever comes through their doors. But there’s a catch: sellers can only visit one buyer at a time, and if they turn down an offer, it’s off the table for good
The first two episodes air Sunday, January 5th and Sunday, January 12, 2014, and feature an eclectic mix of items, ranging from a mummified cat and rare Canadian flag, to a letter from reclusive “Catcher in the Rye” author J.D. Salinger.
