CES 2014: Lenovo Horizon 2 Multimode Table PC

Do kids still play board games with each other these days? Probably not so much, it seems they always have their heads buried in personal electronics, when they aren’t playing a game against AI on their new console. However, the folks at Lenovo are looking to change that paradigm, and make the word “social” apply to people you are in the same room with again.

At CES 2014, Lenovo has released an update to their 27″ Table PC, the Horizon 2. A Table PC is exactly what it sounds like, a tablet the size of a table. They even offer a rolling table base for it, in case you lack your own table to place it on. Lenovo was demonstrating the unit completely flat on the table, with a series of multi-user games that bring a modern twist to some old favorites.

The Horizon 2 comes with more than 60 multitouch, multi-user games and educational apps — including offerings from Ubisoft and Crayola. You can also download more from the dedicated Lenovo App Shop. It’s just 0.8″ thick and looks and feels exactly like an over-sized tablet, so it’s probably best to avoid games like Slapjack. When you want to get some work done, the Horizon 2 can also operate as a traditional vertical screen desktop.
