Theater Owners Want to Change Movie Trailers

According to a report Monday on Crave’s /Film, the National Association of Theater Owners is recommending some sizable changes for movie trailers.

The group wants movie studios to make trailers under two-minutes long and should not be released more than 150 days (5 months) before the opening of the movie. The recommendations also include a ban on including anything in trailers that encourages people to use their cell phones, like a website address.

Now before the trolling of the NATO website begins, you should know that the group doesn’t have the power to do anything beyond not running trailers that don’t fit the guidelines. Also, the guidelines are voluntary even for individual theaters.

Now we don’t think for a second theaters will actually not run the trailer for the Man of Steel sequel or The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but what do you think? Let us know over on Crave’s Facebook.
