Two weeks ago, NBC officially ordered a pilot for “Constantine,” based upon the DC Comics/Vertigo character, John Constantine. While the title role has not yet been cast, NBC has already lined up a director for the pilot episode.
According to Deadline, Neil Marshall has signed on to helm the “Constantine” pilot. Marshall recently directed the pilot episode of STARZ’s pirate series “Black Sails.” In features, Marshall has directed The Descent, Dog Soldiers and Doomsday, but he may be best known for directing the wildly popular “Blackwater” episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 2. Marshall also directed an episode for the upcoming fourth season of “Game of Thrones” that is rumored to feature another large battle sequence.
John Constantine is a con man, an occult investigator and a working class magician who was created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and Jamie Delano in 1985 as a supporting character in the Swamp Thing comic book series. Constantine was eventually given his own comic book called Hellblazer; which ran for 300 issues.
Back in 2005, Keanu Reeves portrayed John Constantine as an American in the Constantine feature film that was directed by Francis Lawrence. It’s unclear if Constantine will be American or British in NBC’s new incarnation.
NBC’s “Constantine” pilot is expected to begin production soon. In the meantime, share your casting picks for the new John Constantine!
