While Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) appearances on “Arrow” hinted at a relationship between Barry and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), the one, true love of The Flash has just been found.
Deadline is reporting that Candice Patton has joined the cast of “The Flash” pilot as Iris West, the daughter of Jeese L. Martin’s Detective West. Iris is described as the “fast-talking, quick-witted best friend.” Ever since her first appearance alongside the Flash in 1956, Iris West has been Barry Allen’s girlfriend and even his wife until the recent New 52 reboot at DC.
Patton is best known for her roles in “The Game,” “Sorority Forever,” “One Tree Hill,” “CSI: Miami,” “Rizzoli & Isles” and she even appeared in NBC’s “Heroes.”
In DC comics, Iris West has traditionally been portrayed as a white woman. Patton’s casting is a departure from that, but that’s not uncommon among modern comic book adaptations as Hollywood attempts to inject some diversity into the classic characters.
Rick Gosnett and Danielle Panabaker were also recently added to “The Flash” pilot; which appears to have a very strong chance of making The CW’s Fall 2014 season. It’s not clear if The CW will air “The Flash” pilot this spring, but production is expected to begin soon.
