Robin Hood is coming back to BBC America. Just not quite in the way that anyone expected.
Deadline is reporting that the creator of NBC’s “Dracula,” Cole Haddon is developing a new drama series at BBC America called “Nottingham;” which recasts the traditionally villainous Sheriff of Nottingham as Robin Hood by night.
According to the premise, the Sheriff becomes disenchanted with Prince John’s rule after the murder of his wife. In response, the Sheriff adopts Robin Hood’s identity and begins a one man war against Prince John while maintaining his cover as his loyal follower.
Robin Hood has been adapted many times for film and television, most recently in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood from 2010, with Russell Crowe as the title character (pictured above). In 2006, BBC One premiered a “Robin Hood” TV series that had Jonas Armstrong as Robin.
Sony Pictures TV and Davis Entertainment are producing “Nottingham” for BBC America. A start date has not been announced.
