Eastman & Laird Reunite for TMNT’s 30th Anniversary

It’s been 20 years since Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird last worked together on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles project, and 30 years since they first created the weird, edgy, black and white saga of the heroes in a half shell. Eastman has been working on IDW’s current TMNT series, but to mark that triple-decade anniversary, Laird is stepping back into their world for a commemorative issue this May.

It’ll be a 48-page celebration of various eras in TMNT history and will also include work from many other creators who helped define those eras, such as Dean Clarrain, Chris Allan, Gary Carlson, Frank Fosco, Jim Lawson, Tom Waltz and Dan Duncan.

“Working on the TMNT Comics with the wonderful and amazing IDW team over the last three years reminded me how much I MISSED and LOVED the four green guys.” said  Eastman, “getting to work with my co-creator Peter Laird again is the icing on the cake – and then some! It really took me back thirty years, to the earliest days, with the fondest memories, and why we got into this business in the first place.”

The cover below showcases the two working together again, just in time for the big movie this August. However, the IDW press release was a little unclear as to whether or not they’ll actually be creating a story together. This cover might be the extent of their reunion. If so, well, that’s a little disappointing, but hey, cool artwork, though!
