First Look: ‘Community’ Goes ‘G.I. Jeff’ In New Animated Episode

Believe it or not, there are only three episodes of “Community” Season 5. And although there are some promising signs, a sixth season of “Community” is by no means a sure thing.

Fans of the show will have to wait until Thursday, April 3 for the next installment of “Community,” which is the much anticipated animated episode that was done in the style of the “G.I. Joe” cartoon from the ‘80s.

Over at Entertainment Weekly, “Community” executive producer, Chris McKenna explained that “[G.I. Joe] was something from our childhood that was very important to us and we had fond memories of it, and we thought it would be a cool way to do another animated episode…  Like all Community episodes, it takes on a certain style. This one has a very specific story reason for it. I don’t want to give too much away, but our characters find themselves on a Wizard of Oz-type journey through the world of G.I. Joe. … There’s a mystery that Jeff in particular has to get to the bottom of.”

“We do a typical G.I. Joe opening where G.I. Joe is battling Cobra,” added McKenna. “Then something very un-G.I. Joe and something very Community happens, and it becomes this inciting incident that gets our characters in hot water in the G.I. Joe realm.”

EW also debuted three pictures from the episode, including Jeff as Wingman, which apparently adopts the look of G.I. Joe’s Duke.

Next up is Annie as Tight Ship (an analogue with Shipwreck) and Britta as the aptly named, Buzzkill (… I have no clue whose costume this is supposed to be. Help me out, readers!)

And finally, Shirley appears as Three Kids, while wearing Stalker’s costume.

Fans in Los Angeles who are heading to the “Community” PaleyFest event next week will be able to see part of “G.I. Jeff” before it premieres on April 3.
