Jesse Moss On His Budding Film Career

Jesse Moss, whose latest film “Extraterrestrial” will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18th, is the third film from writer/director duo The Vicious Brothers. The Vicious Brothers made their mark at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival when their first-ever feature “Grave Encounters” became a huge success. Their latest sci-fi horror endeavour is sure to be yet another smash hit.

In “Extraterrestrial,” Moss stars as the obnoxious hipster Seth, who, along with his best friend Kyle, lead a group of friends into the woods in search of the wreckage from the fireball they saw crashing to earth from the sky. What they find will entangle them in a web of terror.

Jesse also stars in the Canadian horror comedy “Wolfcop.” This young home-grown talent revealed his desire to work behind the camera one day and told Crave readers what his secret weapon is in the kitchen.

CraveOnline: Tell me about the current projects you’re working on.

Jesse Moss: I’m currently working on a television series called “Cedar Cove” for Hallmark. It stars Andie Macdowell and I play a young Navy lieutenant stationed in the small town of Cedar Cove. I also have two films coming out in the next few months: “Extraterrestrial,” a film about alien abduction, [which] premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival this April, and I have a horror/comedy called “Wolfcop” hitting theatres on June 6th.

Any desire to work behind the camera?

I’ve always had aspirations to do more than just act. I have a number of writing projects on the go for which I’ve received development funding. I also produced a presentation pilot last year in Los Angeles that is currently being shopped, and I have my sights set on directing my first feature in the near future.

Who is someone in the business that you look up to and why?

Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favourite actors. He’s an insanely talented guy who went through this very dark and difficult time, but managed to overcome his issues and change his life. He’s now had this amazing comeback and is one the most successful, most respected actors on the planet.

If you hadn’t gotten into acting, what career path would you have pursued?

I’m fascinated by science, specifically the physics of our universe. I love watching space documentaries by guys like Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking. If I could wave a magic wand and be something else, I’d like to try my hand at astrophysics. My grades in high school might have a thing or two to say about that, but I still find it all so amazing.

Where do you currently live?

Right now I live in Vancouver.

Would you move to the States?

There is always the possibility that I might have to move somewhere else for work if a show is shooting on location but I will always come back to Vancouver. This city is just so incredible. Mountains, water, great restaurants. This is home.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I love to cook. I do all the cooking in my house. I could watch the Food Network all day. I make a mushroom risotto that would blow your mind.
