Justice League Movie Announced by Warner Bros.

It took them long enough, but Warner Bros. finally announced today that they will indeed go ahead with a movie based on the DC superhero team, The Justice League. Zack Snyder will direct the film, which has not yet been given a release date – or even a release year – but it is expected to be Snyder’s next project after Batman vs. Superman wraps.

Speaking about the studio’s tiered process to creating their own cinematic superhero universe, Greg Silverman, the President of Warner Bros. Woldwide Production, told the Wall Street Journal:

It will be a further expansion of this universe. […] ‘Superman vs Batman’ will lead into ‘Justice League.’

With Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and now Cyborg officially confirmed for the cast of Batman vs. Superman -or is it, as Silverman put it, Superman vs. Batman again? – it’s beginning to feel like Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel sequel won’t just “lead up” to Justice League, but will act as a full-fledged prequel. Which leads us to wonder who is left to introduce in the Justice League movie proper. Has the time finally come for a live-action Aquaman? Or a better live-action Green Lantern? Will there be any attempt to introduce less high-profile characters like The Question, The Atom, Booster Gold and/or The Blue Beetle?

Warner Bros. has previously attempted to produce a Justice League movie before, under director George Miller (The Road Warrior), but the production died after casting began, thanks in large part to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike. We may never know for sure, but plans were allegedly made to film the entire movie in motion capture, a la Beowulf.

Such details, true or false, are scarce for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League movie, but Warner Bros. Worldwide Marketing President Sue Kroll made one comment to the Wall Street Journal that’s bound to disappointment Wonder Woman fans the world over. They’re still waiting for “the right script.”

That is our hope […] With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.

More than ready. But for now, let those who have waited patiently for a Justice League live-action movie rejoice, for one is near… ish. Unless they hated Man of Steel, of course.
