Back in 2012, Fabrice Gobert created “Les Revenants” for French Television and it slowly grew into an international hit. In 2013, Sundance Channel picked up the first season of “Les Revenants” for the U.S. and it earned a spot on our annual list of best drama series.
Now A&E has officially given the greenlight for an American version of “Les Revenants,” or “The Returned” in English. “Bates Motel” executive producer Carlton Cuse is writing the pilot episode and co-executive producing “The Returned” with Raelle Tucker (“True Blood”).
As in the original series, “The Returned” will focus on a small town that is rocked by the sudden resurrection of several people years after they died. ABC recently launched a similarly themed series called “Resurrection,” which may steal some of “The Returned’s” thunder. But the original “Les Revenants” is a much better series than “Resurrection” and it is available on Netflix for anyone who wants to enjoy it.
“The Returned” will begin production this summer for its ten episode first season. Casting is expected to begin immediately. The series will likely premiere in 2015 on A&E.
