No. No no no no no no… NO. There will NOT be another Flintstones movie. Not on our our watch. You people have it easy. You get to ignore a situation like this until the movie is actually playing in the multiplex. Hell, you can keep ignoring it after that. We write about movies for a living and we’re contractually obligated to see and review this thing when it actually does come out. We’re so deeply screwed. Jane… get us off this crazy thing… called The Flintstones.
(Yes, we know that’s “The Jetsons.” We don’t care.)
But despite our protests, a new movie version of The Flintstones is indeed on its way, this time in animated form, presumably because the two live-action movies from 1994 and 2000 were such a monstrosity. The script will be written by Chris Henchy from the Land of the Lost movie, and the film will be produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay under the “Gary Sanchez” banner that brought you Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie. (They also did Anchorman 2, for whatever it’s worth.)
Hollywood Reporter didn’t know when the new Flintstones movie was due to be released, but it’s probably too soon.
Oh come on, we can’t be THIS cynical, can we? It’s The Flintstones. One of the most beloved cartoons of all time. Surely Hollywood will treat it with the utmost respect and… oh right, the other movies. We forgot about those for a second. Never mind.
