An 11-goal haul from forward Josh Kennedy paced the West Coast Eagles’ 111-point demolition of Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.
West Coast produced the highest score of any team thus far in 2014 in the 30.8 (188) to 12.5 (77) win, snapping a four-game losing streak in the process to rise to 7th on the AFL ladder.
Kennedy kicked three in the opening term as the Eagles went 24 points ahead before adding another two early in the second to quell a GWS mini-revival.
A massive 10-goal third quarter put the game away for good as the Eagles eventually reached the 100-point margin with Kennedy and his previously maligned kicking technique registering his 10th and 11th majors in the final term without a miss.
The big win saw West Coast come within four points of breaking a club record, a total of 29.18 (192) set against the then Brisbane Bears in 1988, despite kicking more accurately than the Ross Glendinning led side.
Both clubs head into the bye round with some concern- Mark LeCras’ comeback appears to be short-lived with a suspension likely inevitable after a high shoulder bump on Will Hoskin-Elliott. Josh Hunt may also see some time on the sidelines for a high hit on Jamie Cripps. The duo will join Paul Duffield, Liam Jones and Jarryd Roughead as players set to come under scrutiny when the match review convenes on Tuesday.
Shannon Hurn (27 disposals), Chris Masten (26) and Matt Priddis (26) led the Eagles while LeCras added four goals and Jack Darling three.
