Ben Affleck’s Batman Costume Revealed!

Oh Zack Snyder, you scamp: yesterday you tweeted the first-ever picture of the Batmobile, covered in a tarp, from Batman vs. Superman and you teased that you would pull off sometime today. And sure enough, off came the tarp… but Batman was under there too.

(Nice plug for the camera too.)

It’s difficult to confirm whether it’s actually Ben Affleck in the costume or just a stand-in whose chin bears an uncanny resemblance to the Academy Award-winner’s famous jawline, but that’s definitely a brand-new Batman costume and it looks pretty decent. The pointy ears are short than usual for a Batman movie, the chest logo is a LOT bigger (seemingly inspired by Frank Miller’s design from The Dark Knight Returns), and he appears to have quite the mighty codpiece as well. Take a better look below.

Zack Snyder appears to be trying to merge popular looks from the history of the Batman franchise to craft something instantly recognizable but still visibly “new” for Batman vs. Superman. Which is probably a wise move: when Batman and Superman finally show up on screen together, we want them to look like our shared vision of these characters. We don’t want Batman to show up in the “ice” version of his costume from Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin and we don’t want Electro-Superman to show up either. Unless Snyder has completely screwed with the color scheme (unlikely but difficult to tell, since the photo is in black & white), this looks like Batman to us.

What do you think?
