Bakersfield Hero Cat to Throw Out First Pitch at Minor League Baseball Game

File this one under "Never Let a Viral Sensation Go Unexploited"…

Unless you've been traveling through the Outer Rim this week, you've undoubtedly seen video featuring the mighty heroics of Tara, the ferociously faithful family cat who saved 4-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo of Bakersfield, Calif. during a vicious dog attack captured on video.

The amazing footage exploded online and landed Tara and the Triantafilo family in the national spotlight, including appearances on the network morning shows and cable channels.

But now, as reported by Crave sports site NESN, Tara will receive an honor usually only reserved for two-legged heroes when she's set to throw out the ceremonial first pitch next Tuesday for the minor league A-ball Bakersfield Blaze baseball team.

Now, despite all of Tara's myriad skills, we're not entirely sure how she'll wing the horsehide over the plate without an opposable thumb…but since the Blaze made the offer, we'll assume they've already thought this through and come up with an answer to the question.

Of course, Tara can only hope to perform her duties as well as Bruce did…or maybe she'll trot to the mound and perform the usual duties a cat performs when they find some loose dirt.

Either way, expect a great show at the Blaze game next week!
