Watch: Sebastian Vettel Nearly Runs Down Kimi Raikkonen

A Red Bull Racing mechanic saved a stunned Kimi Raikkonen from being run over by Sebastian Vettel during a Formula 1 training session in Monte Carlo earlier this week.

The incident occurred while Raikkonen stood unaware in a free pit lane as Red Bull signalled the German to start his run.

The mechanic managed to get to the Finn, who also finished behind teammate Fernando Alonso, the F1 leading Lewis Hamilton and Vettel in practice heading into this week’s Monaco Grand Prix.

Raikkonen suffered setbacks when his run was delayed due to a damp track. When he did eventually get his wheels moving, gearbox failure forced him back to the sidelines.

Mercedes head into the sixth leg of the 2014 F1 season well in truly in command, however Red Bull and Ferrari are a chance to steal a Grand Prix on the tight circuit Monte Carlo track, expected to work against Mercedes’ straight line speed.

Hamilton tolds a three-point (100-97) lead over Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg atop the F1 driver standings while Alonso sits a distant third with 47 points. Red Bull drivers Vettel (45) and rookie Daniel Ricciardo (39) are even further behind with a combined two podium finishes between the pair.
