VIDEO: Chicago Cubs Scoreboard Operator Sleeps During Boring Game

Look, we get it…this has already been a brutal season for the Chicago Cubs.  Mired in the NL Central cellar with the worst record in baseball means the Cubs and their fans have had to soldier through some hellacious games so far in 2014.

And yes, that pain extends to the guys who have to update Wrigley Field’s old-school manual outfield scoreboard.

Tuesday night’s Cubs-Mets game was no exception most of the way.  The Mets scored in the top of the first, then NO ONE scored again until the 8th…making for a pretty slow night for the guys tasked with putting numbers up on that big board.

Yes, he’s got a job to do and yes, he’s getting paid.  But, as pointed out by Crave sports site NESN, can you blame an already beaten-down man for giving up and allowing the sweet release of sleep to whisk him away from the horror down on the field?

We don’t either…but that doesn’t mean it isn’t funny as hell to watch the Chicago Cubs’ scoreboard operator saw logs like it was his job in the middle of the 5th inning of that snooze-fest.

Let’s just hope somebody gave the dude a nudge before Nate Schierholtz’s walk-off single in the 9th gave the Cubbies a rare 2-1 victory.
