Darren Aronofsky Brings The MaddAddam Novels To HBO

Last January, director Darren Aronofsky and his production company, Protozoa signed a first look deal with HBO. Just six months later, Aronofsky’s first TV project may be taking shape.

Deadline is reporting that Aronofsky is executive producing an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy of novels as a potential drama series on HBO. While the project doesn’t currently have a writer attached to it, Aronofsky may direct the project as well.

The MaddAddams novels — Oryx and Crake, Year of the Flood and MaddAddam — take place in the middle of the 21st century after corporations have replaced governments and genetic modification is commonplace. The story takes place before and after a Waterless Flood kills most of the world’s population as the narrative follows the people who caused the apocalypse and those who are just trying to survive it.

Aronofsky’s most recent film was Noah, which dealt with the famous Bible story about a flood that devastated humanity. If MaddAddam goes to series, it will be Aronofsky’s first TV project.
