Michael Gambon Headlines HBO’s ‘The Casual Vacancy’

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them isn’t the only J.K. Rowling adaptation currently in the works. HBO and BBC are teaming up to produce Rowling’s “The Casual Vacancy” as a three part miniseries. Now, one of the leading roles has been filled.
 
Michael Gambon has joined the cast of “The Casual Vacancy” as Howard Mollison, the owner of a delicatessen in the small English village of Pagford. Gambon previously starred in six of the Harry Potter movies as Albus Dumbledore. 
 
With a career spanning over fifty years, Gambon has appeared in numerous films and TV series including “Doctor Who,” The Omen, Amazing Grace, The Book of Eli, The King’s Speech and Quartet. Gambon has also played roles in “Angels in America” and “Luck” for HBO.

Originally published as a novel by Rowling in 2012, “The Casual Vacancy” explores life in Pagford and the underlying conflicts between the rich and the poor, children and their parents, teachers and their students and even between husbands and wives. 
 
Keeley Hawes, Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan, Julia McKenzie and Rufus Jones will appear alongside Gambon in “The Casual Vacancy.” Filming is expected to begin next month.
