E3 2014: Mii Fighters Announced for Super Smash Bros. U

Nintendo opened its digital press conference with the announcement that Miis would be playable fighters in Super Smash Bros. U.

The Mii fighters come in three different varieties – brawlers, swordfighters and gunners. Each type is customizable with different moves, with a total of 36 moves to choose from.

Nintendo stated that it intended for Miis to join the battle so players could insert themselves into the game, along with creating unique characters. Abraham Lincoln and Elijah Wood were two examples given of characters players could create.

Super Smash Bros. U will also be the first Nintendo game to support Amiibos, the Skylanders-esque figurines that can be scanned to appear in the game. These figurines add unique brawlers specific to the player into the mix. Amiibos will also be made compatible with Mario Kart 8 in the future.

Nintendo also announced that the 3DS version of the game will be released on October 3rd.
