In this week’s episode of “24: Live Another Day,” Jack reunites with his old friend, Torture and London burns as the first drone arrives. Oh… and lots of questionable decisions were made by several characters.

There are full spoilers ahead, so consider yourself warned!

Jack and Kate Strike Out

With the sting on Karl Rask (Aksel Hennie) largely a bust, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) and Kate Morgan (Yvonne Strahovski) have very little good news for President James Heller (William Devane). But the President is far more disturbed by the fact that MI-5 interfered with the operation despite the promise of Prime Minister Alastair Davies (Stephen Fry).

When Heller confronts the Prime Minister, he learns that the open secret of his mental deterioration is out there and likely to spread. Feeling impotent, Heller tells Mark Boudreau (Tate Donovan) and Audrey Heller (Kim Raver) to begin making preparations for his resignation once the current crisis is over.

My Daughter Must Die

The lone bright spot is that Simone Al-Harazi (Emily Berrington) was hit by a bus while trying to get her sister-in-law, Farah (Tehmina Sunny) and her daughter, Yasmin (Nikita Mehta) to flee London. Jack thinks that Simone may turn on her mother and he gets Heller to give him and Kate the full cooperation of the British.

Meanwhile, Margot Al-Harazi (Michelle Fairley) realizes that her daughter has betrayed her and she sends one of her men to kill Simone at the local hospital.

Jack Gives Simone a Hand

Unfortunately for Jack, Simone isn’t going to give up her mother so easily. Then Jack begins squeezing Simone’s hand near her recently severed finger while attempting to break her resistance. Kate seems visibly upset about what she’s seeing and Jack actually apologizes to her for reacting that way. For the first time, Jack admits that his hatred runs deep for fanatics like Simone.

On her own, Kate talks to Yasmin and she learns that Simone murdered Farah. Yasmin even states her desire to see Simone die for what she’s done. If Yasmin had actually killed Simone, it would have been a reprise of a classic “24” trope. But instead, Kate commits a major blunder by speaking about Simone’s status over the phone where Margot’s henchman can hear everything she says. In response, Margot sends the man to silence her daughter and she directs the first drone to the hospital.

Because That’s Not Suspicious At All

Back in a subplot that feels very far away from the rest of the show, this year’s traitor, Steve Navarro (Benjamin Bratt) makes contact with his handler… Adrian Cross (Michael Wincott) about CIA tech Jordan Reed (Giles Matthey) and his unauthorized investigation that may expose them. Steve summons Jordan to his office and he sends him into the field for a dead drop pickup.

Predictably, Jordan finds nothing suspicious about this right up until the moment he is shot by an assassin. However, the gunman proves to be a fairly bad shot as Jordan manages to get away with only a relatively minor bullet wound.

Bombs Away

Jack and Kate easily spot Margot’s henchman long before he gets near Simone, but he is killed by hospital security. In the dead man’s phone, Jack discovers that a drone strike is only minutes away. While Kate tracks down Yasmin, Jack forces Simone to come with him while the hospital evacuates.

In true Bauer form, Jack manipulates Simone into begging for his help before they leave the hospital. The drone’s missiles devastate the hospital and leave some of the civilians dead or severely maimed and wounded. It’s a very grim moment that’s undercut by some sheer “24” hilarity as Jack randomly hijacks two vehicles to escape Margot’s drone.

On a side note, Ian Al-Harazi (Liam Garrigan) is way too excited about the prospect of blowing up Simone. She is still his sister, so that’s kind of bizarre. But Jack’s gambit is successful as he and Kate manage to keep Simone alive… for now.

Mark and a Hard Place

Meanwhile, Mark takes a meeting with his counterpart in the Russian government, who quickly and easily guesses that Mark forged Heller’s signature on the order to turn Jack over to the Russians. The Russian uses this knowledge to blackmail Mark into helping him get Jack even if he inevitably saves the day.

He Is The Decider

President Heller tells Jack to come directly to him before he takes a video call from Margot. Heller trades a few words with Margot before he seemingly agrees to give himself up to her in exchange for preventing the drone attack on London.

Heller really is slipping if he thought this was a good idea. The last time that Heller was taken hostage by terrorists, he ended up wearing pajamas while appearing in a terror propaganda video. But no one ever really learns from their past on “24.”
