It’s been a solid nine months since we’ve heard any news about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment in Disney’s hit pirate franchise starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. The film was set to be directed by Kon-Tiki filmmakers Joaquim Ronning and Espen Sandberg and come out in the summer of 2015, but was unexpectedly pushed back more than a year last September. In the months that followed, The Lone Ranger and Transcendence both struck huge blows against Johnny Depp’s reputation as a box office draw, leaving many to wonder if the fate of Pirates of the Caribbean was in jeopardy.

Now it appears that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is back on track. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told WTLV that production will begin early 2015, which should mean that the film will be ready in time for the previously projected 2016 release date.
Jerry Bruckheimer was tight-lipped beyond that point, but previous reports have indicated that Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush would return in the fivequel, which may involve The Bermuda Triangle as a plot point. Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour 2) has been hired to write the screenplay.
