There’s going to be fresh-faced automotive silliness soon from Mazda – and gearheads everywhere should be happy about that.
The new, fourth generation, 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster will debut in a set of events in Japan, Spain and the U.S. this Fall. Glimpses of the new Miata (or its chassis) were available at this year’s New York International Auto Show. As of September 3, we’ll know what the whole car looks like.

The new Miata will be heading north from its American HQ in Irvine, Calif. up to its home away from home, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca outside Monterey. It’ll play a big part in Miatas at Mazda Raceway (September 5-7) as the new girl meets its ancestors amongst a menagerie of Miata . “heritage, concept and motorsports MX-5s.”
I’m a fan of the MX-5 because it’s a classic roadster and an endangered species. It’s also a car built for no other purpose but fun, and that’s a concept all but lost in the automotive world. I’ll have more on the new model as September approaches.
